Formentera rewards a simple plan. Choose one beach, leave time to explore and make the return journey clear before you set off. The water may look effortless; the practical details deserve attention.

Ferry or excursion?

A ferry gets you from one port to another. A day excursion includes a programme that may combine time at sea, swimming and time ashore. Compare the exact itinerary, meeting point, included meals or drinks and return time.

Start at La Savina

La Savina is the island's harbour. Work out onward transport before arriving and choose a route that fits the time you have. Trying to see every beach and lighthouse in a short stop can leave little time to enjoy any of them.

Choose your beach day

Ses Illetes is known for white sand and turquoise shallows within a protected natural park. Cala Saona offers a different west-coast setting, while Migjorn stretches along the south. Conditions, facilities and access vary.

Travel with the island in mind

Use marked access paths, keep away from protected dunes and take your rubbish with you. If considering a car or scooter, check current vehicle-access rules and your rental permissions first. Taking a vehicle across is not automatically allowed.

Leave time to return

Confirm the last boarding arrangements and keep the harbour journey realistic. Wind and operating conditions can affect the day. With Oceanbeat, use the current event page and your booking confirmation instead of an old season's timetable.

Before you go

  • Bring water, sun protection and a towel.
  • Choose one main destination during limited island time.
  • Keep your return ticket and contact details accessible.
